Highly Sensitive Therapy & Wellness

Therapy for Highly Sensitive People in Asheville, NC

For people whose sensitivity is the source of their work and also the thing wearing them out.

HIPAA-compliant telehealth video sessions, never in person

The Trait Behind the Work

Makers, musicians, writers, cooks, guides, and the people who keep rooms feeling good are disproportionately sensitive. That is not a coincidence. Depth of processing is what lets you notice the thing that is slightly off and keep working until it is right.

The complication is that the trait does not have a setting for professional use only. The same responsiveness that makes the work good makes a bad review, an indifferent audience, or a slow month land far harder than it lands on someone else.

Being Perceptive in a Place Full of Visitors

Asheville is a city that receives people. Weekends and whole seasons of strangers arriving expecting to be delighted. If your income involves hosting them, you spend your working hours reading moods, managing expectations, and being pleasant on demand.

For a sensitive person that is not neutral work. It is continuous emotional attention. It is entirely possible to go a full week without a single interaction where you were not, on some level, taking care of someone.

Sensitivity in a Culture That Praises It

There is a local twist worth naming. In many places sensitive people are told they are too much. Here they are often told sensitivity is a gift, which sounds better and can be just as isolating. If it is a gift, you are not supposed to find it hard, so you stop mentioning that it is.

In this work you get to hold both. The trait is genuinely valuable, and it costs something specific, and you are allowed to talk about the cost.

This Page Is Probably for You If

  • Your best work comes from noticing what others miss
  • Criticism of the work feels like criticism of you
  • You are on for strangers all day and empty by evening
  • You have been called an old soul and never a tired one

How sessions work

I am Ryane Miller, MSW, LCSW. My North Carolina clinical social work license is held under my legal name, Ryan Miller, #C012653. Every appointment is a HIPAA-compliant telehealth video session. There is no office in Asheville and no in person option anywhere. I work with adults who are physically in North Carolina during their sessions. I do not promise a particular outcome or a set number of sessions.
