Therapy for Highly Sensitive People in Charlotte, NC

For the person on the team who notices everything and has nowhere to put it.

HIPAA-compliant telehealth video sessions, never in person

Depth of Processing in a Room Built for Speed

High sensitivity is not shyness and it is not anxiety, although it can produce both. It is a trait, found in roughly one in five people, and its core is depth of processing. You take in more detail per minute than most people around you, and you keep turning it over after the moment has passed.

In Charlotte that trait tends to meet an environment designed for volume. Open floors. Back to back calls. A culture that treats a fast answer as a good answer. You are often the one who hears the hesitation in a client's voice, or notices that a colleague has gone quiet three meetings in a row, and you are almost never the one asked about it.

Being Told You Are Too Much

Sensitive adults in this city usually arrive having been given some version of the same feedback for years. Too intense. Too invested. Needs to develop a thicker skin. Reads into things.

That feedback is worth examining rather than swallowing. Most of the time what is being described is accurate perception delivered in an environment with no channel for it. The work is not to stop perceiving. It is to learn what to do with what you perceive, when to say it, and how to stop carrying the parts that were never yours.

The Recovery You Are Not Taking

A highly sensitive nervous system needs downtime after stimulation, and it needs more of it than the people around you appear to. In a city where the evening is another event and the weekend is another obligation, that recovery quietly stops happening. Then the sensitivity starts to feel like the problem, because you only ever experience it while depleted.

We look at what genuine recovery looks like for you specifically, and we treat it as a requirement rather than a reward.

This Page Is Probably for You If

  • You can tell how a meeting is going to end within the first two minutes
  • You need real quiet after a long day and feel guilty asking for it
  • Criticism lands harder than you let anyone see
  • You have been called sensitive as though it settled something

How sessions work

I am Ryane Miller, MSW, LCSW. My North Carolina clinical social work license is held under my legal name, Ryan Miller, #C012653. Every appointment is a HIPAA-compliant telehealth video session. There is no office in Charlotte and no in person option anywhere. I work with adults who are physically in North Carolina during their sessions. I do not promise a particular outcome or a set number of sessions.
