Burnout Therapy in Durham, NC

For people whose work has no natural finish line and whose reserves ran out first.

HIPAA-compliant telehealth video sessions, never in person

Depletion on a Very Long Timeline

Burnout in Durham often does not come from a brutal quarter. It comes from years. A grant cycle that resets the moment it closes. A degree that has outlasted several apartments and one relationship. A clinical schedule where the demand is steady and the end of it is theoretical.

Long horizon burnout is easy to miss because there is no dramatic event to point at. You simply notice one day that you cannot remember the last time you finished something and felt it.

Compassion Fatigue Is Its Own Category

For anyone doing patient facing or caregiving work, part of the depletion comes from repeated contact with other people's suffering. That is not a failure of professionalism. It is the predictable result of being present to difficulty over and over without an equivalent amount of restoration going back in.

Highly sensitive clinicians reach this point earlier than colleagues do, because the contact registers more deeply each time. It helps enormously to understand that as a known pattern rather than as evidence that you are not built for the field.

What We Work On

Where the work has been allowed to expand into every remaining hour. What rest actually restores you, which is often not what you have been substituting for rest. The internal rule that says stopping has to be earned. Whether the current arrangement is survivable as it stands, and what you would want if it is not.

Adults only, by secure video, anywhere in North Carolina. There is no office, and no promise of a particular outcome.

Common Reasons People Reach Out

  • You cannot stop working at a defined hour because the work is never done
  • Other people's difficulty stays with you longer than it used to
  • Accomplishments arrive and register as nothing
  • You are quietly wondering whether you should leave the field

How sessions work

I am Ryane Miller, MSW, LCSW. My North Carolina clinical social work license is held under my legal name, Ryan Miller, #C012653. Every appointment is a HIPAA-compliant telehealth video session. There is no office in Durham and no in person option anywhere. I work with adults who are physically in North Carolina during their sessions. I do not promise a particular outcome or a set number of sessions.
