Boundary Work
Boundary Setting Therapy
Most people do not struggle with knowing where their limits are. They struggle with saying them out loud and surviving the discomfort that follows.
Signs Boundaries Need Attention
If several of these sound familiar, you are in exactly the right place. None of them need to be severe to be worth bringing to a session.
- Resentment building toward people you love
- Agreeing to things you immediately regret
- Explaining and over-justifying every no
- Work that reliably spills into your evenings
- Feeling responsible for how others react to your limits
How We Work on This Together
Finding the Actual Limit
Before you can hold a boundary you have to name it plainly. We start by mapping where your energy leaks and what you have been tolerating.
Saying It Cleanly
We rehearse real language for real situations, including the coworker, the parent, and the friend who calls at midnight, so the words are ready before the moment arrives.
Holding It Through the Pushback
The hardest part is usually the reaction. We prepare for it, so a boundary survives contact with the people most likely to test it.
Approaches I Draw From
- Assertiveness and communication skills
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Values-based work from ACT
Sessions are held online over a confidential, HIPAA-compliant platform and are available to residents anywhere in North Carolina.
Questions People Ask
- What if the other person reacts badly?
- We plan for that directly, including what you will say and how you will take care of yourself afterward.
- Can we focus on work boundaries specifically?
- Yes. Many clients come in because work has stopped having an off switch.
- Do you work with individuals on relationship concerns?
- Yes. I work with individuals navigating challenges in their important relationships.
